Pasta tossed with tomato sauce, fresh basil, and garlic. A simple dish built on a swappable pasta base and adaptable protein and vegetable slots.
Ingredients
Method
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Prepare the chosen protein and vegetable.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and black pepper.
Add pasta to boiling water and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain in a colander.
If using protein, cook separately and set aside. Add the chosen vegetable to the simmering sauce and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
Tear fresh basil into the sauce and remove from heat. Stir in the cooked protein if using.
Toss cooked pasta with the sauce and vegetable mixture until well combined.
Divide among bowls. Top with grated Parmesan and red pepper flakes if desired.
