Sloppy Joe Casserole
A baked casserole combining seasoned ground meat, tomato-based sauce, and a starch base. Assembled and baked until bubbly and lightly browned on top.
Ingredients
Method
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground meat, breaking it apart as it cooks, until no pink remains, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
Add diced onion and minced garlic to the meat; cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spread the starch base (bread cubes, crackers, or cooked pasta) evenly in a 9x13 baking dish.
Pour the meat sauce over the starch base and spread to coat evenly.
Whisk together milk and beaten egg in a small bowl. Pour over the meat and starch layer.
Top with shredded cheese, spreading evenly.
Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and the casserole is bubbling at the edges.
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
