Chocolate Mousse
A silky, decadent chocolate mousse with swappable flavor layers and toppings. Choose your chocolate intensity, flavor add-ins, and garnishes to create endless elegant variations.

Method
Chop the dark chocolate fine and place in a heatproof bowl. Heat 1/2 cup of the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming (do not boil). Pour over chocolate and let sit 1 minute, then whisk until smooth. Cool slightly.
In a separate bowl, whip the remaining 1/2 cup heavy cream to stiff peaks. Set aside.
In another clean bowl, whip egg whites with sugar and salt until stiff peaks form, about 2–3 minutes.
Fold vanilla extract and optional liqueur or flavoring into the cooled chocolate mixture.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate in two additions until almost fully incorporated.
Carefully fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate-cream mixture in two additions until no white streaks remain; do not overmix.
Divide mousse among serving glasses or bowls. Top with your choice of nuts, fresh berries, or whipped cream. Serve immediately or refrigerate up to 2 hours.
