Cowboy Casserole
A baked casserole of seasoned ground meat, beans, and corn layered with cheese and topped with crispy breadcrumbs. Assembled in a single dish and baked until the cheese melts and the topping crisps.
Ingredients
Method
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Drain and rinse the beans and canned corn.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground meat, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
Stir in the onion and garlic. Cook until the onion is soft, about 3 minutes.
Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and chili powder. Stir until combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Pour half the meat mixture into the prepared 9x13 inch baking dish. Scatter the drained beans and corn evenly over it. Sprinkle 1 cup of the cheese on top.
Top with the remaining meat mixture, then the remaining 1 cup of cheese.
Toss the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Scatter evenly over the cheese layer.
Bake uncovered for 25–35 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the breadcrumb topping is golden brown.
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving directly from the dish.
