Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain onion and garlic if using fresh; measure out turmeric, cumin, and paprika.
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened and translucent.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add turmeric, cumin, and paprika; stir constantly for 1 minute to toast the spices.
Add rinsed rice and stir for 1–2 minutes to coat with oil and spices. Pour in vegetable broth and drained beans. Stir well.
Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low. Cover with a lid and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.
