Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a bowl, toss with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread evenly in an 8x8 baking dish.
In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
Add cold cubed butter and use your fingertips or a fork to work it in until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
Stir in chopped nuts until evenly distributed.
Spread the topping evenly over the apple filling, pressing gently.
Bake for 35–40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the fruit bubbles slightly at the edges.
Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with yogurt, ice cream, or whipped cream if desired.
