Bread Pudding
A comforting classic dessert made from cubed bread soaked in a rich custard and baked until golden. Customize with your choice of bread, liquid, flavorings, and mix-ins for endless variations.
Ingredients
Method
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter or oil a 9x9 or 8x8 inch baking dish.
Place cubed bread in the prepared baking dish and scatter any mix-ins (dried fruit, nuts, chocolate chips) evenly throughout.
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk (or cream), sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
If using a spice blend, whisk in ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin-pie-spice at this time.
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing gently with the back of a spoon so the bread absorbs the liquid. Let sit for 5–10 minutes if time allows.
Bake uncovered for 40–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle with optional glaze or sauce if desired, and serve warm or at room temperature.
