Char Siu
Glazed and roasted meat with sweet and savory char-siu sauce, hoisin, and soy flavors. Meat cooks low until caramelized outside and tender within.

Method
Pat the protein dry with paper towels. Place in a shallow bowl or dish.
Whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and star anise in a small bowl until smooth.
Pour marinade over the protein, turning to coat all sides. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 12 hours, turning once halfway through.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Transfer protein and marinade to a roasting pan; arrange sliced onion around it if using. Pour broth into the pan (around the protein, not over it).
Roast uncovered for 30 minutes. Brush with sesame oil and any pan juices.
Continue roasting for 15–20 minutes until the surface is caramelized and an instant-read thermometer registers 160–165°F (pork), 165°F (poultry), or 130–135°F (duck), depending on protein choice.
Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Slice or shred; spoon pan juices over top. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onion.
