Grilled Cheese
A classic pressed sandwich with melted cheese between toasted bread, endlessly customizable with your choice of cheeses, breads, and optional add-ins. Golden, crispy exterior and creamy, gooey center in every bite.
Ingredients
Method
Lay both bread slices on your work surface. If using a condiment, spread it thinly on one or both slices.
Layer the cheese on one slice, then add any optional proteins or vegetables in an even layer, finishing with another layer of cheese if desired.
Top with the second bread slice and gently press down. Lightly butter the outside of the top bread slice.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat until a small piece of butter sizzles on contact.
Butter the outside of the bottom bread slice, then carefully place the sandwich butter-side down onto the hot skillet.
Cook for 3–4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy, pressing gently with a spatula if needed.
Flip the sandwich and cook the other side for another 2–3 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
Transfer to a plate, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately while warm and cheese is at peak creaminess.
