Grilled Cheese Sandwich
A hot sandwich of melted cheese between toasted bread slices, cooked on a griddle or skillet. Bread and cheese are the base; butter and seasonings customize the flavor and texture.

Method
Lay out both bread slices on a work surface. If using a spread, apply a thin layer to the inside surface of each slice.
Layer cheese (and any optional vegetables or protein) between the two slices, then season with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat for 1–2 minutes until warm but not smoking.
Butter or oil the outside of both bread slices, then place the sandwich in the skillet.
Cook for 3–4 minutes until the bottom slice is golden brown and the cheese begins to soften, then flip carefully.
Cook the second side for 2–3 minutes until golden and the cheese is fully melted inside.
Transfer to a plate, cut in half if desired, and serve hot.
