Hamburger Helper
Ground meat cooked with pasta or grains and a savory sauce base, bound together as a one-dish meal. Mixed and simmered until flavors meld and pasta absorbs the sauce.
Ingredients
Method
Dice the onion and mince the garlic. If using a vegetable, cut into small, uniform pieces. Measure out the pasta and broth.
Heat the fat in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground meat and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until no longer pink, 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Add the onion and cook for 2 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the tomato paste (or sauce base) and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute to deepen the flavor.
Pour in the broth and stir. Add the uncooked pasta and any diced vegetable. Bring to a gentle boil.
Reduce heat to medium-low, cover partially, and simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and the flavor seasoning. Stir in the optional cheese, herbs, or hot sauce if desired, and serve warm.
