Meatball Sub
A customizable meatball sub where you choose your protein, sauce, bread, and cheese to create your perfect sandwich. Tender, flavorful meatballs topped with your favorite sauce and melted cheese on warm toasted bread.
Ingredients
Method
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly oil it.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, diced onion, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined—do not overmix or meatballs will be tough.
Roll mixture into 16-20 meatballs (about 1.5 inches in diameter). Place on prepared baking sheet and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until meatballs are cooked through and lightly browned.
While meatballs bake, warm your chosen sauce in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until hot.
Split sub rolls and lightly toast them in a toaster oven or under the broiler, about 2-3 minutes, until warm and slightly crispy.
Place toasted rolls on a baking sheet. Divide meatballs evenly among the rolls (4-5 per sub).
Pour sauce generously over the meatballs on each sub, then top each with 1/2 cup shredded cheese.
Return to oven at 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve immediately while hot.
