Ingredients
Method
Form ground beef into a patty roughly 4 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick. Make a shallow indent in the center with your thumb to prevent bulging during cooking. Season generously with salt and pepper just before grilling.
Heat grill or skillet to medium-high heat (about 375°F). Grill patty for 3–4 minutes without moving it, until a crust forms.
Flip patty and cook 2–3 minutes more until internal temperature reaches 160°F for well-done. About 30 seconds before patty is done, place cheese slice on top and cover briefly to melt.
Toast bun lightly on the grill, cut-side down, for 1 minute until golden.
Spread mustard and mayo (or special sauce) on both bun halves. Layer bottom bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and red onion as desired.
Place cheese-topped patty on the vegetables. Top with the upper bun and serve immediately.
