Italian Sub
Layered sandwich on crusty bread with cured meat, cheese, and pickled vegetables. Assembled cold with oil and vinegar dressing, served as a handheld meal.
Ingredients
Method
Slice the sub roll in half lengthwise and gently hollow out excess bread from the inside if desired to reduce bulk.
Layer the cured meat on the bottom half of the roll, followed by cheese slices.
Add tomato slices, then lettuce, then pickled vegetables, then red onion on top of the cheese.
In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, red wine vinegar, and oregano; drizzle evenly over the vegetables.
Close the sandwich with the top half of the roll and press gently so fillings adhere.
Cut diagonally in half if desired and serve immediately, or wrap and refrigerate up to 2 hours.
