Ingredients
Method
Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly butter a 9x13 baking dish.
Drain and flake the canned tuna into a large mixing bowl.
Dice the onion (or chosen aromatic) and cook gently in 1 tbsp butter if desired, or add raw; fold into the tuna along with the binding base, most of the cheese (reserve 0.25 cup), dill, salt, pepper, and worcestershire sauce if using.
Spread the cooked starch base evenly in the prepared baking dish, then top with the tuna-cheese mixture, spreading gently to distribute evenly.
In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs with melted butter and the reserved 0.25 cup cheese; scatter evenly over the tuna layer.
Bake uncovered for 25–35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbling at the edges.
Cool for 3–5 minutes before serving. Scoop into bowls or plates and garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
