French Toast Roll Ups
Bread slices dipped in egg batter, filled with a sweet or savory center, then pan-fried until golden. The exterior crisps while the interior stays moist and the filling remains warm.
Ingredients
Method
Remove crusts from bread slices and flatten each slice gently with a rolling pin to about 1/8 inch thick.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
Spread 1/2 oz cream cheese thinly over each bread slice, leaving a small border around the edges.
Add about 1 teaspoon of jam or chosen filling mix-in to each slice on top of the cream cheese.
Starting from one short end, roll each slice tightly into a cylinder and place seam-side down on a plate.
Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat until melted and foaming.
Working in batches if needed, dip each roll up into the egg mixture, coating all sides, then place gently in the hot skillet.
Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy, turning carefully with a spatula.
Transfer cooked roll ups to a plate and dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
Serve immediately with maple syrup, whipped cream, or additional jam for dipping.
